Case Study
Precision CNC Machining of Traction Motor Components for Indian Railways
Challenge
One of our recent contracts involved the machining of electric locomotive traction motors used by the Indian Railways. Viyoma's team was entrusted with machining the stator of the traction motor, which independently weighed a massive 1200 kilograms. The stator's concentricity was a critical requirement, with the product demanding a concentricity tolerance of 40 microns to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the traction motor.
Development
Precision Centricity: Viyoma's team was able to achieve the required concentricity within the specified 40-micron tolerance. This accuracy of tolerance is key to ensure optimal motor performance. The slightest deviation during the machining process could lead to potential issues, including vibrations in the traction motor.
Customized Fixturing: To maintain proper alignment, custom fixturing solutions were developed to securely hold and position the stator during machining. This ensured that the stator's position remained stable, and any deviations were mitigated.
Viyoma leveraged Mitsui Seiki HMC with its 800mm palette, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to perform high-precision machining. Our engineering teams ensured consistent accuracy and minimized deviations during the machining process.
Conclusion
Viyoma’s ability to handle heavy components with high precision is represented by the successful delivery of electric locomotive traction motors and stators that meet stringent concentricity requirements.
